Shadow Mountain Vineyards is a 3rd generation family estate grape growing & winemaking business operation, founded by Agusto & Helen Mase, an Italian couple in 1944. A second generation of the family planted extensive vineyards in the 1960's and 70's.
Alexander and Pamela McGeary, the current owners acquired the estate in 1990 and have continued the family's dream and tradition of growing and producing premium varietal wine, grown in a unique micro-climate, high in the mountains of San Diego county, on the eastern slopes of the coastal range.
The present winery production facility, rebuilt from a devestating forest fire in 1995 was reopened for business in 1997. We now have special event facilities for small to medium size groups. Please contact us for specific details and arrangements. We invite you to stop by for a visit and enjoy the beauty of the vineyards, our wine and hospitality.

The winery and vineyards are located high in the mountains of northern San Diego County, just below the famous Palomar Observatory, on Highway 79 South, the historic Butterfield stage Line route that brought many European settlers to California in the mid 1800's.
Along with their baggage and quest for gold, they also brought their culture of grape growing and winemaking to this region of California. The elevation is 3500 feet above sea level, where the warmth of summer is moderated by the Pacific ocean breeze and the cool nights of the mountains, a location prized for quality wine grape growing.
Shadow Mountain is a limited production winery that specializes in premium white and red table wines grown from grapes on the estate. We are situated on Sunshine Summit that overlooks the beautiful Hot Springs Mountains and the historic Valle de San Jose, home of the famous Warner Springs Ranch. We invite you to visit us!
