Shadow Mountain Vineyards

My husband and I had our wedding here in September 2009. This was a great opportunity to have a beautiful wedding in a gorgeous setting at an affordable price. Whereas some wedding venues will nickle-and-dime you for table linens, chairs, lighting, etc, all of these things are included in the event package at Shadow Mountain. Pam does the catering (and our food was excellent) and helps to act as a wedding coordinator. She and her husband Alex really went above and beyond the call of duty to help us out when our photographer canceled at the last minute. Shadow Mountain is a great option for a couple who want a smaller (less than 75 people) wedding/reception in a gorgeous mountain winery setting with great wine.

After having been a fan of their wonderful wines for several years, my fiance and I selected Shadow Mountain Vineyards as the location for our small winery wedding in September 2009. Shadow Mountain provides a gorgeous winery setting for small events of 75 people or fewer. Their wedding package included all lighting, tables, chairs, place settings, etc at one reasonable cost. Pam (who owns the winery with her husband Alex, the wine maker) provides the catering and did an amazing job with our food. We received many compliments on it--especially on the tri-tip that we served (also my favorite). Pam also went above and beyond the call of duty to help us find a back-up photographer when our previously-booked photographer canceled at the last minute. If you're interested in getting married at a winery in a gorgeous mountain setting and want something a little less formal and a lot more affordable than what Temecula has to offer, Shadow Mountain would be the perfect venue for you!

If you're a wine fan and are planning a trip to the Julian area, Anza Borrego, or Temecula and you find that you have a bit of extra time, you'll find it well-worth the effort to stop by the tasting room at Shadow Mountain Vineyards (a few miles north of the Warner Springs resort, off of Highway 79).
The winery specializes in red wines and easily hold their own with some of the better local wineries, such as Orfila and Hart. The winery is owned by Pamela and Alexander McGeary, and Pamela staffs the tasting room on weekends. She's extremely personable and will help guide your tasting towards your own wine preferences. We've visited three times over the past year, and she's had different varietals and vintages open for pouring each time that we've visited.
Shadow Mountain feels like a true boutique winery (it reminds me of some of the Sonoma tasting rooms that I used to frequent when I lived in the Bay Area 10 years ago) and lacks the Disneyland-esque atmosphere of many of the Temecula wineries.
If you like good red wine and enjoy a personal tasting room experience, you'll love Shadow Mountain.
