Malbec 2019
Malbec 2019
Shadow Mountain Vineyards & Winery 2019 Malbec is a bold red wine with a makeup of 75% Malbec and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, both estate grown, made, and bottled. The 3,300 feet in elevation at the winery, as well as the granite soil and clean mountain air, result in a solid harvest of Malbec, with happy grapes producing a nearly-purple juice that is rich in tannins, body, structure, and dark fruit. This 2019 was bottled in August of 2022, making it 3 years from harvest to fermentation to tank to barrel to bottle, with another 20 months to rest in the bottle before being released. Still a young wine, this is a powerful red that may benefit from a decant and swirl to hep it open up.
Tasting Notes
May initially want a decant due to the tannins; smooths out after opening. Already starts with some smoke and bacon on the nose, along with dark, red fruits.Vineyard Notes
Estate GrownProduction Notes
May have been both pumpover and punchdown during fermentation. Pressed in multiple batches with old, manual chain-driven press.Pairings
BBQ! Meats! Hearty meals.Other Notes
Tested sulfites in March 2024, prior to release. Perfect level, on the nose. No issue. A bit green as of March 2024 - could initially use a decant.Awards
